The Beer Kitchen Test Series #1 by Innis & Gunn

We’re thrilled about the Innis & Gunn Inveralmond Brewery announcement and the newest brew at The Beer Kitchen is one of the very first off the kegging line. The Beer Kitchen Test Series by Innis & Gunn is a range of exclusive beers which will only be available in our bars for a limited time, so get involved while you can!

The first in the series is a deliciously refreshing Pilsner Style Lager which is perfectly timed with this recent warm(ish) weather. Pilsners as a beer style can be dated back to November 1842 when the first keg was tapped in the Czech Republic town of Pilsen. Pilsners are generally defined as being pale, hoppy lagers and two distinct styles have developed from this; German and the traditional Czech style. Our first Test Series brew is a German-style pilsner that is more hop forward than its Czech Republic cousin. The aroma is a delicious clean malt, with some floral and spicy hop and the taste has a sharp hoppy bitterness which is perfectly balanced with a bready and biscuity malt. All in all a really refreshing beer and at only 4.2% it’s the ideal warm weather option.

If you fancy more of a meal than a cheeky pint after work, this beer works really well with a wide array of dishes from our menu. We’ve popped in some suggestions below, but feel free to experiment!

Starters/Bar Bites – Cauliflower croquettes and Scotch eggs
Mains – Chicken burger, Pork belly, Veggie steak and From the ground
Sandwiches – House smoked ham hock and warm flat iron steak
Desserts – Crumble and custard, and White chocolate mousse

We want to hear your thoughts on the first beer in The Test Series so take a few minutes to answer these questions and you could be in with a chance to win a beer sampling session for you and three friends in either Dundee or Edinburgh! Imagine how popular that’ll make you….
